I thought Obama did a nice job last night.  

Still on the border of whether I'll vote Obama or Jill Stein (Green Party). My state's a lock for Obama already...

I guess the reason some religious people cant accept evolution is the void it leaves them.  But so would relativity and the second law of thermodynamics, for that matter.  The scientific method is something few people outside science really grasp. 

Good post. The quotation from Einstein is a great one. The laws of cause and effect exist within our behavior every bit as much as they do in what we view in the natural world. The effects of causes we make are far reaching but there is also an immediacy of effect when one offers a hand to another. When I do something for someone I feel like my day was fuller and better lived. 

@GodlessLiberal - my state is a lock for Romney, so i'm considering voting for Stein to make a statement.  

Vote for Romney.  He's got plenty of money so what is there left to do!

It is a glorious campaign slogan.  I like it.  And add a good-natured chuckle at the end to show that he's just like you and me:

@GodlessLiberal - Vote for obama, the way it's sizing up if the election were held today he could win the electoral college but lose the popular vote, which politically would be a blow to a second administration.

@ascultafili - I've never met someone who didn't accept evolution and knew what it actually was at the same time.  People reject it because they're told it's the anti-god theory, which is just BS.

@RulerofMasons - The world has seen a lot worse.  I don't know if you're being serious with all this doom saying, but if you want to feel better about where we're going look at where we've been - study the unvarnished history of the world, of religion, of politics of the US - the world, as fucked up as it is, is getting better.  We feel pain at it's imperfections only because we are capable of appreciating the abyss between what it is and what it could be - that is the first necessary step toward bridging that abyss. 

We look at how shitty things are now and think "oh it's hopeless", when people thought the same thing about abolishing slavery, women's rights, every big conquering empire that's come and gone and countless other things.  And our problems are miniscule compared to those of a society where nearly no one can read or write, where the best solution anyone has yet conceived for mental illness is to torture the mentally ill to make the demons want to leave them.

The society we live in is, for all it's flaws, infinitely better than the one our ancestors lived in just a handful of generations ago.  And the one we leave to our children's children will, as unlikely as it may seem, be better than the one we have today.

@agnophilo - hehe true :)  but alas, i live in MO.  Obama didn't even get that state in 2008.  i need to move to where it's blue.  

@flapper_femme_fatale - It's blue all over, wherever there are cities.

@agnophilo - you'd be surprised at how conservative St. Louis is.  we have a lot of rich white people in the suburbs who are afraid of anyone from the inner city.  

@we_deny_everything - This was a first in Massachusetts history. After being elected Governor of Mass Romney closed one of the elevators in the State House to the public so he could use it as his personal elevator. Apparently he didn't want to get in an elevator with the little people.

@flapper_femme_fatale - What about the house of rep or senator for your state? Will no democrats win there too?

@flapper_femme_fatale - Also, as I said to godless liberal, obama could win the electoral college but lose the popular vote (it seems likely at the moment but we'll see) which would be a blow politically and would give fox news and birthers and their ilk one more reason to claim his presidency is illegitimate, so I'd vote obama.  And yeah I suppose it's not uniform.  And in "blue" areas there are conservatives and in red areas there are liberals, just not in the majority.

Just wanted you to know I stopped by...Reads like there is another Civil War going on...this time the Blue and the Red.  I think I have heard more arguing this election than any other (and I have been around one or two). 

@mommachatter - Blame it on the citizens united ruling which legalized unlimited corporate donations to political campaigns.

@PPhilip - districts in my area are very polarized, thanks to gerrymandering.  the conservatives and liberals currently in office have little to no risk of losing their seats.  our Democratic governor is very moderate.  the only tight race is Akin vs. McCaskill.
